LAGOS UNITY CARNIVAL 2011- LAGOS IS WORKING! FASHOLA IS WORKING, LAGOSIANS ARE ROCKING!! !

Lagos State hosted the 2nd edition of the Lagos Unity carnival on the 30th of April 2011. As expected traffic on the Island came to a complete halt with road closures as the parade and floats traversed Awolowo Road Ikoyi and other major streets across the island before culminating in Tafawa Balewa Square for a grand display. It was planned to be a fun day out for ALL residents of Lagos, many who seriously got into the swing of things...
I noticed many people on the Island went about their business like nothing was going on except the usual irritation of Lagos traffic, so I asked a few Ikoyi and VI residents if they would be participating in the carnival but many laughed it off saying they had discussed it with friends but only in the capacity of streets to avoid on the day, while others felt it was an event for Lagos locals only (Isale eko etc), who were actually  well represented.  In fact some even had representation of their local clans amongst the display and floats...

Although the Carnival went ahead without a hitch and people evidently had lots n lots of fun, it looks like it'll take more than a 'unity' carnival to truly unite the 'Ikoyi, VI, Lekki  crowd' with 'The Isale Eko crowd'...
But I have to say it was really nice to see Lagos residents having so much fun with or without the 'so-called' cool crowd..What the heck! Fashola is cool and that was a Raji Fashola project...!!!! So Yes...The Lagos Carnival rocked in true 'Eko o ni baje Lagos stylee..'

2011 - The Year of Fierce Gene..

So it's Genevieve Nnaji's birthday today...(3rd of May) and we just had to seize the day to say 'Happy Birthday' to one of our favourite celebs here on SD..Why we love her? So many reasons but first a girl that gets up against all odds to do her thing in the face of friends and foes alike and come out at the other end triumphantly is a girl after our heart..!!!
Right before our very eyes, Single Mum, Genevieve has grown from being a beautiful woman to being an even more beautiful and confident woman..Love her or lump her..you can't take away the fact that this girl 'worked' her way up not knowing what lay ahead but she just kept moving and looking at this young woman, no one can hold her down...she drives her own 'jeep of life'...and we just can't wait to see what the future hold for this fabulous Nollywood Sweetheart...

Any hoooo, it's the last few minutes to 12 mid night before her birthday is over and in true Cinderella style..For a few minutes..I am your fairy God Mother..LOL! So if you are a Genevieve fan..you can share in her magic tonight..

If you're a Nigerian with a blackberry phone then you've probably heard one of Chigurl's antics but if you haven't you can listen to my favourite (Kilode) here...



I have to admit that the first time I heard 'Kilode' I couldn't stop laughing..I just wondered who was behind it as even funnier voice recordings were further released (also by Chigurl) and circulated via BB.

It was so popular that Paddy Adenuga apparently twitted:
"Whichever babes that made the wack #!@%*# "Kilode" song & "Awon girls" track that hv been going around are the razzest babes God ever created"

But how wrong Paddy was. In fact, by all standards, Chigurl is actually very far from razz, Chigurl aka C-Flow, whose real name is Chioma Omeruah is what Naija peeps describe as seriously 'Butter'. She grew up in highbrow Ikoyi before moving to the United States of America where she lived for over 10 years. She speaks french and spanish and in fact worked in America as a French teacher before her foray into theatre..Truth is Chioma is just a typical Naija Babe with international exposure but she just loves to make people laugh..!  And she certainly does it so well...it's really amazing how versatile she is with her act... I met her Mum and Brother at an event but unfortunately Chioma wasn't with them..  (She's now based in Abuja). So in the absence of our super funny Chigurl, please say hii to her very lovely Mum and her Brother...who is actually BEZ the Singer's Manager...Small world eh?

MODEL SEARCH: MOST CREATIVE FASHION DESIGNER OF THE YEAR, ITUEN BASI TO HOLD MODEL AUDITIONS FOR A NEW INNOVATIVE FASHION PROJECT AT TERRA CULTURE , LAGOS- 6TH MAY, 2011

Calling all female models between the ages of 18 to 28 and 5'8" to 6" tall. Come spend Friday morning auditioning for a chance to be a part of Ituen Basi's most exciting fashion project to date. Auditions will be held before Ituen Basi and her electric team made up of  the creator of Tinsel and the writer of Critical Assignment at Terra Culture on Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island on Friday, 6th of May between 8am and 12am.
