TAYO ADERINOKUN (CO-FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR, GUARANTY TRUST BANK) FUNERAL CEREMONY PICTURES

On the 1st of July 2011, Tayo Aderinokun (8 May 1955 - 14 June 2011), Co-Founder and Managing Director of GTB bank was laid to rest following a series of events celebrating his beautiful life and contribution to the financial sector in Nigeria.

Mr Tayo Aderinokun died at 56 years old following a long battle with Cancer but his legacy as a man of integrity, excellence lives on.

Many paid moving tributes to the man Gauranty Trust Bank describes as "An astute and erudite gentleman and one of the most influential and respected bankers in Nigeria" . One of the tributes that touched us was by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Lamido Sanusi who openly wept at the funeral as the reality dawned that indeed Nigeria had lost a gem..

Mr Lamido's tribute reads and we quote:

"Tayo was a model of who a professional banker should be. He helped to build one of the most successful banks in Nigeria and the Bankers Committee will miss his wealth of experience greatly. This is a major loss to the banking industry and the country as a whole.

Apart from our professional relationship, Tayo was a personal friend. We met when he was at Chase Merchant Bank in Kano in the 1980s. I was at that time the Head of Credit and Treasury at Icon Limited (Merchant Bankers).
In fact, when I was first approached to come and be the CBN governor, he was the first and only bank chief executive officer that I confided in and he told me to take the job. He felt it would be good for the industry.
I'm happy that I was able to see him and talk to him in the hospital in London before he went into a coma. All I can say is I'll miss him greatly"

Management and Staff of GTB, family, friends, professional colleagues and members of the public turned out en masse to celebrate a life well lived and to commit his remains to earth and to pray for the repose of his soul to God the creator.

The funeral ceremonies started with a GTB Commendation Service on Monday 27 June at Harbour Point Victoria Island, the event featured international musician Asa and GTB Mass Choir rendering choruses. On Tuesday the 28th of June, Service of Songs were held at the same venue. On the 30th of June 2011, lying -in-State at his Ikoyi residence was followed by a Wake-keeping Ceremony at Eko Hotel and Suites.

On the 1st of July, the funeral service was held at Ikoyi Baptist Church after which his remains were buried in a private interment ceremony at The Vaults, Ikoyi Cemetry.

Halleluyah! I'm finally packing my bags Lagos bound...as crazy as Lagos is, I've actually missed that town.It's been a roller-coaster of events since I arrived in London for the photoshoot for my Ankara handbag range with the gorgeous Rose (model), the fabulous Bolanle Okusanya (Makeup Artist), photography by Anna Fayemi and styled by yours truly..Bola Obileye...it's exciting times to be creating pieces made from Ankara or wax prints as the west like to call it...!!

Everyone is wearing Ankara and print inspired pieces. It amost feels like an overkill but I'm loving it! It's the unleashing of African fashion  on the world..First Lady, Michelle Obama landed in South Africa wearing a print jacket Nigerian Lawyer turned designer Duro Olowu, she also wore one of his african inspired dress on a dinner date with the President and even another on Oprah's show..Michelle loves Duro Olowu..that's for sure!

I hit the west end when I arrived and I couldn't resist buying Aldo's Ankara Shoes (Forwood), I loved 'em so much I bought both colours available..(They cost £65 in the UK but have been reduced from $90 to $59.99 in the US, yes we always get ripped of in the UK..but it's all good!! Not!)

Spotted on Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Alicia Keys and tons of other celebs, Ankara/print wax fabrics are no doubt the rave of the moment. With the release of Burberry's Prorsum 2012 collection featuring Ankara, these are great times for African fashion afterall Burberry has always stood for tradition and heritage. We sure hope and pray the renaissance of Ankara is here to stay....if not we'll still rock on in giddy..

I'M SHATTERED

I lost my Aunty T yesterday and I'm shattered beyond words! Her death was so unexpected, so rude and so deeply shocking but I find comfort in the way she lived and died. She walked the christian walk and was indeed an example to all of us that knew and loved her. She was not ill, she woke up as usual in the morning to say her prayers and after the last amen she gasped and died.. just like that!!!
As painful and shocking as her passing is, I can only describe it as the calling to glory of a saint and certainly enough assurance for me that her eternity with the Lord is assured. My selfish heart wishes she didn't have to leave us so soon but still my heart testifies that Aunty T finished well, that she is in the bosom of her maker, Our God. What a way to go and be with the Lord..
But her death has left me bewildered and faced with the reality of my own eternal destiny. Where will I be when God calls me home..?? Death is a debt we ALL must payback, whether young or old we will ALL die, we shed tears for the ones that are called before us like we were the lucky ones to still be alive...hmmm! indeed we're lucky to be alive not because we have escaped death but only because we have time to take steps to put our relationship with God in order and the sooner the better 'cos you just don't know when it'll be time to face our own music of glory in heaven or anguish in hell when death comes knocking..
'RIP' is a wish for our dearly departed but the truth is you alone can take the steps to ensure that indeed when you leave this world you really 'rest in peace', otherwise it's empty wishes that only comforts those left behind..I lost Aunty T but I'm blessed to know that  she lived her life for God, served him and died after her morning devotion so I know that she is indeed resting in peace...
Aunty T, my prayer today is that we all learn to love and serve God like you did..We will never forget your life..it will  forever remain our testimony that indeed there is a God!

Now I have to work out my salvation with Christ with fear and trembling...Hmmmm!
