When it comes to ladies in Nigerian fashion design six leading ladies always get our attention. Not particularly for their work (which by the way is often great !) but more for their ability to stay relevant and in business over the years.
In our opinion Nigeria is a tough terrain to operate any kind of business let alone a fashion business where designers can do little or nothing to protect their intellectual property (design wise) as tailors can quickly churn out copies of their work for much less than they charge...

But who is your all time favourite designer? whose pieces get your blood pumping? whose pieces would you give up your pay cheque for?
Zizi Cardow? LOL. With the way she dresses, i won't even go near her shop.

Tiffany Amber (very wearable)
Deola Sagoe (artistic but sometimes unwearable clothes.)
LDA; Queen of vintage. She's in a class of her own.
Ituen Basi; despite not being a fan of Ankara, she uses it best.
JBL; i can't rate her as a designer. Her clothes look like she goes to High Street shops, looks at the designs there and copies them in Ankara with all the embellishments.
I have a Tiffany Amber top even though it jumps up at the back. That’s my issue with these designers, they are unable to cater for really tall women like me (5’11.) When i go into their stores to buy an item, i walk out because their clothes don’t fit my long frame properly.

ReplyDelete@ZIZI have you been to zizi's shop? what she sells is very different from what she wears. I love her styles, very trendy, wearable and affordable.

ReplyDeleteStill, at fashion shows, i've not seen one Zizi item that i like. IMO, they look "okoroish." I'm Ibo, so no bile from me.
