ESSENCE MAGAZINE FOUNDER ATTENDS '50 AT 50' GALA DINNER CELEBRATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF NIGERIAN WOMEN

Nigeria is 50 and at 50, the 50@50 project which was launched by the First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan earlier in the year, held an exhibition and dinner gala at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island on the 3rd of July 2011 celebrating Nigeria's most precious resource - Women. The 50@50 project seeks to celebrate the unique contributions and achievements of women to the advancement of our nation. The project was created under the umbrella of Women for Change Initiative to foster collaborations between the international community and the First Lady's agenda for promoting women's rights and inclusion of women in all sectors of the economy. From professionals to business owners, community advocates, home makers politicians 50@50 celebrates the diverse roles through selected activities that will inspire the younger generation to continue striving towards success recognising the cultural, social and political challenges that prevent women from reaching their full potential. A central focus of the project is to provide scholarships for female candidates and to establish a unique-movement geared towards eradicating gender disparities in our communities. 

The event was well attended by many Nigerian women of note. Also in attendance was America's Essence Magazine Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Susan Taylor
